Water masers in post-AGB and PNe could be key tools to understand the shaping mechanisms of bipolar and multipolar PNe. However, the relationship between the presence of these masers and the characteristics and evolutionary stage of the source is not well understood. We propose to use the Parkes antenna (together with the one in Robledo, Spain) to carry out a survey for water maser emission in optically obscured post-AGB stars and PNe selected by their IRAS colors. This is an extension of our previous study of water masers in evolved stars (project P555), which focused mainly on sources with optical counterpart.
