The objectives and the principal features of the Cassini mission to Saturn, to be launched in April 1996, are briefly discussed. The Cassini will be launched by a Titan IV-Centaur and will spend at least four years orbiting the ringed planet and exploring its satellites. The Cassini mission, a joint effort of NASA and the European space Agency, will be the first planetary mission in a series of Mariner Mark IIs, each a variation of a single spacecraft design. The Cassini will have a dry mass of 1.9 tons, including a 22-kg Titan probe, and will carry 3.4 tons of fuel. The major stages of the mission are reviewed.
