Spin Dependence Of Cross Sections, Polarized Electron Beam Experiments

Scientific paper

A selection of the results which have recently been obtained at the Universität Münster by scattering experiments with polarized electrons is presented. Experimental data are given for inelastic scattering from argon and mercury atoms and are compared to calculations. The accuracy of two electron polarimeters, the Mott detector and the helium polarimeter, is discussed. The paper concludes with a presentation of recent results obtained by electron scattering from chiral molecules. The results of a recent transmission experiment on the attenuation of polarized electron beams in the vapor of chiral molecules confirm the existence of electron optic dichroism.
