The superposition of a longitudinal electric field along the direction of the lines of force of the Earth's magnetic field results in a change in the spiralling-mirroring domain of trapped electrons. The extent of this effect is determined as a function of the applied electric field, and of the equatorial plane ratio of longitudinal to transverse electron velocities. Under certain idealized conditions, the consequent relative increase is found of the injection of electrons from the magnetosphere into the ionosphere.
