A review of the latest findings about compact groups of galaxies is given. It is shown that complete redshift information brings convincing evidence that Hickson's compact groups of galaxies are physical entities. VLA radio data and infrared data both suggest that merging is a common ongoing process in the groups. Recent numerical simulations suggest that compact groups may have existed for a considerable fraction of the Hubble time.
