The authors report spectral measurements (Δλ = 8 Å) from Spacelab 1 of the O2 atmospheric bands in the dayglow at thermospheric altitudes for a tangent ray height of 150 km. Vibrational levels up to υ' = 4 are found in the data, requiring a source in addition to the energy transfer from O(1D) to O2. The authors suggest that this source is the collisional deactivation of N(2D) by O2.
