Simultaneous Chandra/HESS observations were performed in the night of July 29-30, 2006, on PKS 2155-304, during its highest outburst in summer 2006.
They revealed for the first time in an HBL a large Compton dominance, very high gamma-ray luminosities and a cubic relation between X-ray and gamma-ray flux variations, with weak optical variability. Homogeneous one-zone SSC scenarios do not provide a consistent explanation, indicating that a single particle population cannot be responsible for both peaks of the SED during this night. The data indicate the emergence of a new component in the SED, strongly Compton-dominated, which must be either very compact or external-Compton dominated, likely due to radiative interplay between different parts of the jet. New evidence for a multi-component structure in the SED at high electron energies is also found in PKS 2005-489, from dedicated XMM, RXTE and HESS observations between 2004 and 2006. These new, recently published results will be presented and discussed in the context of blazars physics.
