We present further analysis of the XMM-Newton observation of OY Car originally reported by Ramsay et al. (2001a). We add a quantitative measurement of eclipse parameters and correct important timing anomalies present in the data presented by Ramsay et al. The data presented here are the first XMM-Newton observations of an eclipsing cataclysmic variable, and the eclipse ingress and egress are resolved for the first time in any system. We find good fits to a simple linear eclipse model, giving ingress/egress durations of 30 +/- 3s. Remarkably this is shorter than the duration of the sharp eclipse in the optical, as measured by Wood et al. (1989) and ascribed to the white dwarf (43 +/- 2 s). %confined to the equator of the white dwarf. We show that the source is detected also in eclipse, and find that the in-eclipse X-ray spectrum is considerably softer than the out-of-eclipse spectrum. This possibly represents the detection of coronal emission from the secondary star, though that would require emission around an order of magnitude stronger than expected for an active single star.
