Close binaries, and in particular cataclysmic variables (CVs), play a vital role in the dynamical evolution of globular clusters. It is, therefore, important to understand the formation of these systems in the core of a cluster. Here we propose to test the dynamical formation scenarios of CVs by observing NGC 2808 in the X-rays with Chandra. In combination with already existing FUV imaging with the Hubble Space Telescope on this globular cluster it will be possible to unambiguously identify the CVs, and thereby test the formation scenarios for the first time.
