Active Galactic Nuclei: Emission Lines
Scientific paper
Emission-line profiles contain detailed information about the density and excitation states of gas, velocity field, and opacity sources in the nuclear regions of active galaxies and quasars. This information is highly convolved, and it is usually impossible to extract it directly using deconvolution methods. In this paper, the author discusses in detail the distribution function description of the BLR cloud models, and presents a new deduction of the distribution function. The computing method is applied to radiatively-driven cloud models and the derived line profiles are shown graphically. It is also discussed how various factors (input physics) affect the emission line profile.
