THE definition of the absolute radiation scale with respect to fundamental physical concepts can be carried out by employing either a standard emitter or a standard detector of radiant flux. Standard emitters, frequently referred to as black-body sources, are chiefly employed in calibrating low level irradiance measurements. Standard detectors are more suitable for measuring the relatively high irradiance levels of solar flux.
