The short-period Cepheid HD 94033 was discovered in a photometric survey of early-type stars with high proper motion. It has a period of 85 min 42 s and a visual amplitude of 0.8 mag, from 9.465 to 10.26. It is a high velocity star (radial velocity = + 267 km/s), moving around the center of the Galaxy in a highly eccentric and retrograde orbit. It is deficient in metals by a factor of 30 relative to the sun. It is the first known short-period Cepheid that clearly belongs to Population II.
