From the available photoelectric data for the Virgo and Coma clusters, a relation has been derived that gives the relative luminosities of elliptical and lenticular main sequence galaxies as a function of their effective surface brightness and U-B color. This relation appears to be universal and unbiased, and for elliptical objects the dispersion about it seems due to photometric errors only. Relative and redshift distance moduli are compared, and the residuals are discussed: they are large for very blue dwarfs, Seyfert galaxies, stripped dwarfs, and sequence II and III galaxies. Moreover, after rejection of the most aberrant cases, there remains a clear trend in the distribution of the residuals with supergalactic longitude in the belt of supergalactic latitudes (absolute value of SGB less than 30 deg), in fair agreement with de Vaucouleurs' results.
