Earth Atmosphere: Electric Fields

Scientific paper

A rigorous solution is found for the problem of the spatial distribution of the electrostatic field around a point charge submerged into the spherical Earth-ionosphere capacitor with an exponential height profile of the atmospheric conductivity. The solution in the form of a spherical harmonic expansion is used to study the dependence of radial functions on spatial coordinates for arbitrary values of model parameters and summation indices, to prove the convergence of the series and estimate qualitatively its sum.
