Jupiter's magnetodisc is the site of plasma storage, transport, and magnetic reconnection and has a leading role in Jupiter's magnetospheric dynamics. The structure and dynamics of the magnetodisc have been subjected to detailed study over the last 30 years and a relatively well-developed picture has emerged. One continuing source of controversy is the role of centrifugal stress and pressure anisotropy in the stress balance responsible for forming the current sheet. Modelling of the significant azimuthal currents in Saturn's magnetosphere has shown that this sheet carries a tenth of the current in Jupiter's magnetodisc, over a limited radial extent. It is generally accepted that centrifugal stress plays the dominant role in this azimuthal current sheet but the prevailing opinion from Voyager was that these stresses were not sufficient to stretch the field into a disc-like configuration. In this paper we show that a magnetodisc configuration does exist at Saturn and we compare and contrast this with the jovian magnetodisc. We discuss the radial extents of the kronian magnetodisc, local-time asymmetries, and the stress balance in the current sheet. The shape of the current sheet is also shown not to lie in the magnetic dipole equator and we discuss the physical origins for this symmetry breaking.
