The Virtual Solar Observatory is just one of a growing number of virtual observatories that serve heliophysics data. We discuss the current capabilities of these virtual observatories, their roles in data archiving, discovery, quality assurance, assimilation, encouraging standards and in facilitating science. We also discuss the realistic goals virtual observatories should have, in fulfilling the demands of the current and near future heliophysics data environment.
