We present spectral characterizations of the thermal X-ray emission from the ejecta in the Cassiopeia A supernova remnant on a few arcsecond angular scales using the 1 Ms Chandra ACIS observation. We map key parameters such as the gas temperature and ionization age, as well as the abundances of the elements. We also infer the presence of highly enriched Fe ejecta that is widely superposed with ejecta of more normal composition. These observational results are combined with quantitative models that include analytical hydrodynamical calculations and account for the plasma microphysics. These will allow us to infer the three-dimensional structure of the ejecta and formulate a census of the X-ray emitting ejecta.
