The response of the mesopause temperature to solar cycle variations has been investigated using OH airglow observations from Michelson Interferometer instruments located at Resolute Bay (74.68º N, 94.90º W), Canada, and South Pole Station, Antarctica (90o S). These aforementioned stations have been making continuous measurements of temperature and airglow emissions during the six months of each polar winter night. In this paper we compare solar cycle and long-term trends estimated from MI temperature measurements and those derived from WACCM 50 year run. Good agreement is found between the modeled and observed seasonal variations and solar response term derived from WACCM results near 90S and at 87 km agrees well with the term derived from measurements. No statistically significant trend was found either in OH temperature time series or WACCM runs.
