Strong inductive electric fields during solar flares attain several
Volts per centimetre in the transient electrojets inside magnetic flux
ropes with typical lengths of the order of 10 Mm. Both electrons and
ions could be accelerated by these fields up to GeV energies as first
indicated by Alfven and Carlquist (1967).
