We present an analysis of a large spectroscopic and photometric sample of over 159 DZ stars (147 are new DZ white dwarfs discovered in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey) based on our improved model atmosphere calculations. This represents the largest sample of DZ white dwarfs analyzed in a homogeneous fashion. In particular, we revise the atmospheric parameters of the trigonometric parallax sample of tet{t29_blr01}, and discuss the astrophysical implications on the mass distribution, the accretion rates of metals and hydrogen, and the chemical evolution of these stars.
