Cassini's encounters with Titan have revealed significant new results on the interaction with Saturn's magnetosphere and the ionosphere. One unexpected observation during the first close encounter, TA, was the observation of negative ions by CAPS-ELS. During later encounters a combination of pointing effects, local Titan time and altitude range meant that conditions were not ideal for re-observation of this phenomenon. During the T16 encounter, Cassini's first extremely close flyby, negative ions were detected again. We present a summary and comparison of the results at these two remarkable flybys.
