We propose to observe for the first time the south-eastern part of the unidentified very high energy E>100 GeV gamma-ray source HESS J1614-518. In a recent XMM-Newton observation (36 ksec) of the north-eastern part of this source, extended (FWHM 8'),non-thermal X-ray emission has been detected with an energy flux $f(2-10) 1.5x10^{-12}cgs. The morphology of the X-ray emitting region is similar to the morphology of HESS J1614-518.With the proposed observation of 40 ksec of the south-eastern part of HESS J1614-518 which has so far not beeen covered by X-ray observations, we want to search for X-ray emission from this region of HESS J1614-518 which would clearly establish the close connection between X-ray and VHE emission.
