A critical problem in the study of high-z galaxy clusters and groups is how to build an unbiased sample. Most previous studies of the optically selected samples have focused on very massive systems with large velocity dispersions. However, systems with intermediate velocity dispersions would be more abundant and therefore a better representation of the high-z population. This region is largely unexplored due to the lack of a reliable sample. We propose to take snapshots of the 6 largest groups and clusters identified in the DEEP2 Survey at high z with intermediate velocity dispersions. The primary goal is to establish the detectability of the X-ray emission and to probe the bias of the selection process. Deep follow-up will be sought for promising targets.
