The ODIN satellite has been launched on February 20, 2001 with two atmospheric instruments on-board: OSIRIS (Optical Spectrograph and Infrared Imaging System) and SMR (Sub-Millimeter Radiometer). A balloon validation campaign - BALODIN - is planned to validate these instruments in the 10-40 km region with selected validated instruments. Three remote sensing and two in-situ instruments are participating. The balloons will be launched by CNES and the campaign will be split in three periods and three locations according to CNES schedule and upper altitude wind conditions: Gap in south-east of France in June 2001, Kiruna in northern Sweden in August 2001 and Aire sur l'Adour in south-west of France in September. The profiles will be available in near real time on the French ETHER/IPSL/SNES database.
