The types of evolution that arise in isotropic Friedmann cosmological models when effects of bulk viscosity are taken into account are examined. The coefficient of viscosity is assumed to be a function of energy density and to exhibit power-law asymptotic behavior at large and small values of its argument. It is shown that viscosity effects can lead to a superviscous stage characterized by quantum particle production in a strong gravitational field, to an unlimited buildup of entropy at late stages in the expansion of the universe, and to 'slow' expansion in the closed model. Specific solutions are analyzed for different concrete values of the coefficient of viscosity and a heat function. The types of evolution given by the various solutions for open and closed isotropic Friedmann models are evaluated.
