There is evidence that for small scale energy release mechanisms the smallest events may contribute very significantly to the heating of the corona. One of the energy sources for these events is power transfer to the magnetic field by the work done on the footpoints in the photosphere by the viscous drag of convection flows. In this paper we present the early stages of a method to try to quantify this energy transfer, by comparing the velocities of the photospheric flow field, the motions of the magnetic elements and the occurrence of X-ray bright points as observed by Yohkoh SXT. With the data from high resolution vector magnetograms and continuum images from the Solar-B SOT, combined with soft x-ray images from XRT we should be able to much more accurately evaluate the energy release from these small, quiet sun events.
