Some observations on the spatial distribution, origin, and internal atmospheres of Wolf-Rayet stars are presented. These stars are concentrated around the central plane of the Milky Way, and they sharply outline its spiral arms. They are unusual in their magnitude and hydrogen content, and they are characterized by a blue-shifted absorption edge. The Wolf-Rayet state is shown to be merely a short stage in the life of a double star system.
