A formula for calculating the modulation instability of magnetoacoustic waves in the radiation belt is presented. It is shown that if the conditions of magnetoacoustic-wave excitation are kinetic, the modulation instability leads to amplitude stabilization; if the conditions of excitation are hydrodynamic, a more effective stabilization mechanism must operate.
