Interferometry with optical waveguides is one important subclass of optical interferometry for which the beams are propagated in waveguides (e.g. optical fibers, integrated optics). These waveguides are often presented as "funnels for photons", but neither the propagation of the coherence inside the waveguides, nor the effect on the spatial spectrum of the input source are really considered. I will present the interferometric equation and the link between the measured modal visibility and the object visibility. I will show that the number of coherent photons is proportional to the product of the modal visibility and the input Strehl ratio. Finally, I will present a raw estimation of the filtering length of a single mode waveguide, i.e. the length for which the contribution of radiation modes to the fundamental mode corresponds to the expected rejection rate.
