Localized intense magnetic fields in the solar photosphere are analyzed by an expansion procedure, which is applicable to a slender, vertical magnetic tube where field strength may reach 2 kG. Height, buoyancy, and compressibility within the tube are taken into account. Attention is given to pressure and velocity perturbations, noting that motions within the tube depend upon a given transition frequency, which is in turn a function of depth. Good results of the expansion procedure are obtained in cases where gravity is negligible, although the assumption of a realistic solar atmosphere, rather than idealized isothermal conditions, is preferred for the methods of analysis considered.
