A device for in-flight calibration of mass spectrometers is described. This calibrator supplies a constant and reproducible amount of deuterium into the ion sources of the mass analyzer, and the controlling valve can be monitored by ground-station command. The molecular gas used makes it possible to obtain some information on dissociation and adsorption-desorption processes on the spacecraft surface under space conditions.
