The possibility is examined that cooling of solar-wind protons has
escaped detection in the Mariner 2 data. After dividing the data into
two velocity ranges and introducing an intermediate quantity to decrease
the strong dependence of temperature on velocity, it is found that the
low-velocity data exhibit cooling.
