Low-altitude peaked electron spectra data acquired October 1971-August 1972 are analyzed and applied to the study of L dependent peaks in the energy spectra of quasi-trapped electrons (greater than 130 keV) precipitating from the inner radiation zone. The data obtained over three different longitude intervals indicate an increase in the frequency of occurrence of the peaked spectra with increasing longitude east of the South Atlantic anomaly. It is suggested that a similar energy selective precipitation mechanism occurs over a broad range of longitudes. Temporal and energy variations associated with the L dependent peaks are considered.
