The paper is concerned with an error source in measurements of the solar Lyman-alpha line by rocket-borne sensors. The measurements are used to determine oxygen densities, but a fraction of the signal results from solar radiation other than Lyman-alpha in the detector band. The size of the error and its dependence upon water vapor contamination of the detector gas are studied, and it is found that the relative size of the error increases with height.
