The Elkins and Slack (1969) model of 'ringing irregularities' (quasi-periodic scintillations of satellite beacon signals) is confirmed by a comparison of observed data with data predicted by a computer simulation. The comparison is based on simultaneous observation of amplitude fluctuations at two separated stations as well as observation of the relative phase of the arriving signals. While the simple geometric model which assumes specular reflection explains most features of the irregularities, redundant observation provides some additional information not encompassed by the model. Evidence for large angle scattering from ionospheric irregularities is presented.
