The hard X-ray spectrometer of the Cosmos 428 satellite is a two-unit scintillation counter with a CsI recording crystal. Some of the spectroscopic characteristics (recording efficiency, energy resolution, discriminator characteristics, etc.) are examined along with anticoincidence protection and the radiation pattern. The spectrometer located the coordinates of five discrete sources of hard X-rays - 3U1543-47, 3U1700-37, 3U1705-44, 3U1820-30, with one remaining unidentified.
