The effects of a varying level of geomagnetic activity were studied by analyzing a 14-year series of the linear indexes am, an, and as. The results for both diurnal and semidiurnal waves support the theoretical concept of magnetospheric modulation of geomagnetic activity. Patterns for days of high activity and of low activity were compared, and the data show that both the diurnal wave amplitudes and the annual modulation amplitudes depend on the activity level in a multiplicative form. A curvature effect which can be eliminated by further harmonic analysis is considered.
