A scanning Perot-Fabry interferometer, comparable with the UK TAURUS system, has been developed by Marseille Observatory to work at the Cassegrain focus of the 3.6-m CFH Telescope, using a focal reducer and a photon-counting detector. This system is named CIGALE (from cinematique des galaxies) and has been used successfully at CFHT in December 1982 and April 1983. Promising results have been obtained about the velocity field of galaxies, but there are many other interesting applications for such a high-performance system.
