The activities of the pre-MAP project 2 (PMP-2) from 1978 through 1981
are described. The following topics relating to the equatorial middle
atmosphere are discussed briefly: (1) the semi-annual oscillation and
Kelvin waves; (2) planetary Rossby waves; (3) upper mesospheric waves;
and (4) gravity waves.
