Disturbances of stationary ionospheric current systems are investigated in the case of local particle precipitations from the radiation belts or in the case of heating of the ionosphere by high-power radio waves. Two models for the disturbance region are considered: (1) a three-dimensional ellipsoid with gyrotropic conductivity in a homogeneous gyrotropic medium, and (2) a model of the ionosphere in the form of a current sheet. The current-statics problem is solved, and the spatial distribution of current and electric field is determined. In particular, an analysis is presented of changes in the magnitude and structure of static fields and currents in a three-dimensional disturbed region, depending on the level of the disturbance and the shape of the region, determined by the radiation pattern of the short-wave transmitter.
