FAST observations have indicated signatures of large amplitude solitary waves in the auroral zone of the earth's ionosphere. Our objective here is to propose a model for the generation of density cavities by the ponderomotive force of electron-acoustic waves. For this purpose, we derive a nonlinear Schrödinger equation for the electron-acoustic wave envelope as well as a driven (by the electron-acoustic wave ponderomotive force) ion-acoustic wave equation. Possible stationary solutions of our coupled equations are obtained.
