Many astrophysical objects have energetic outflows which are composed of magnetic fields mixed with plasma. These outflows often push through, and are bounded by, the surrounding medium (e.g., the interstellar medium or the intergalactic medium), creating "magnetic bubbles". In addition, the central engines have finite lifetimes, which separate the evolution of these magnetic bubbles into two stages: one with energy and helicity injection from the central engines and one without but the bubbles undergo expansion and relaxation. We will discuss the key physical issues involved in these processes and describe the bubble energy evolution under the constraints of helicity (with or without injection), toroidal to poloidal flux conversion, and expansion. Under the assumption that the bubbles always relax to minimum energy states, we can get constraints on the energy available for heating/accelerating plasmas.
