This is the first of several papers on the bar dynamics of SB0 galaxies.
The authors present the surface photometry and kinematic data for NGC's
1543, 1574, 4477, 4754 and the SBa galaxy NGC 1291. These galaxies will
form the database for the subsequent papers, in which the nature of bars
will be examined in detail.
