The interface of the mare basalt (or megaregolith, in the absence of the
latter) and the primitive rock is of distinct interest to the
understanding of mare geology. The present discussion of available
geophysical data and the geochemical properties of lunar rocks indicates
that the interface region must be rich in metallic iron.
