The paper presents a qualitative evaluation of the resonant interaction of cold heavy ions with a high-amplitude quasi-monochromatic Pc-1,2-range ion-cyclotron (Alfven) wave in a nonuniform magnetic field. Expressions are obtained for the velocity increment and frequency of ion oscillations in the wave field when the increment is significantly greater than the thermal velocity. Equations describing the nonlinear resonant wave-ion interaction are obtained which contain a nonstationary term connected with the magnetic-field nonuniformity. The effect of this term on particle capture by the wave is examined.
