Expressions are obtained for the increment of circularly polarized Alfven waves for two types of distribution functions of high-energy protons depending on the geomagnetic-field structure. The increment has a sharp maximum at the boundary between a region with one magnetic-field-strength minimum at the field-line apex and a region in which there are two field-strength minima on the field line. The results obtained can be used to interpret Pc1 geomagnetic pulsations (i.e., pearls).
