In a ring-shaped collisional system self-gravitation reduces the equilibrium values of the geometric and optical thickness. In Saturn's rings both effects are appreciable. The previously found discrepancy between the calculated profile and the observed profile of the rings (Hameen-Anttila, 1982) is chiefly caused by the omission of self-gravitation.
