Recent developments in the study of hot gas in the universe are described. Knowledge that has been gained thereby concerning supernovae, the nature of the interstellar medium and the galactic corona, the addition of heavy elements to the interstellar medium, the evolution of stars in galaxies, the formation of galaxies, and the distribution of dark matter is discussed.
