Primary eclipses of 16 short-period Algols have been searched for three years for photometric disturbances related to episodic mass transfer. Of 108 eclipses observed with five-color intermediate-band photometry, 18% showed such disturbances, whose spectral characteristics are similar to those of disturbances seen many times in U Cep. Equatorial bulges ('disks'), streams, and hot spots can explain many of these observations. Abrupt period changes were found in several systems, but their relation to transient mass transfer is unclear. Photometric evidence of mass transfer has now been found in binaries in which the mass of the subgiant loser ranges from 0.6 to 2.8 solar masses
