A new and extensive catalogue of UBV photoelectric photometry has been compiled which collects all data published from 1953 to the end of 1985 in the Johnson and Morgan system. In addition, data obtained in closely related systems using UBV filters have also been collected and are available in a separate file. All the data have been merged, yielding a final catalogue of 136,719 entries concerning 87,267 stars and components. The data have been taken from 1413 (UBV) and 127 (other) references found in 73 different periodicals. Great care has been taken to detect and correct all kinds of errors. For the analysis of the data see Abstr. 002.030 (Paper II).
